The Six Heart Virtues
Why the Six Heart Virtues?
The Six Heart Virtues are a practical way to bring greater coherence into everyday life.
Most of us spend a great deal of time reacting to our thoughts, emotions, and circumstances. We become caught in patterns of stress, judgment, fear, and distraction.
The virtues offer another choice.
Appreciation. Compassion. Forgiveness. Humility. Understanding. Valor.
These are not ideals to achieve. They are qualities we can express in our thoughts, actions, and behaviors. Even a small expression of a virtue can change how we experience a moment, a relationship, or a challenge.
Short definitions
Appreciation: Sensing the unifying field that connects us—and honoring it in small gestures of gratitude.
Compassion: Meeting the suffering or struggle of another (or oneself) with warmth and a desire to assist alignment with one’s best.
Forgiveness: Releasing the emotional weight of judgment and restoring the flow of love in the present.
Humility: Equal among equals—open to learn, to be corrected, and to serve without self-importance.
Understanding: Listening beyond opinions to essence; seeing the broader context that shapes behavior.
Valor: Gentle courage to act or speak from the heart, especially when it’s not easy or popular.
Why Presence Matters
The virtues become available when we are present enough to notice our choices.
Most of us spend much of our day on autopilot—lost in thought, replaying the past or anticipating the future.
Presence creates a pause.
In that pause, we can choose how we wish to respond.
The Six Heart Virtues help guide that choice.
Practice now
