The Six heart Virtues – Micro-real life-practice
A new beginning for 2026. This is the first in a new series offering simple, real-life examples of practicing the Six Heart Virtues in daily situations.
At checkout, a customer argued loudly with the cashier. I felt judgment rising. I breathed compassion in, sent compassion out to both. I forgave myself for the reflex to judge, and I let humility remind me: I don’t know their stories. I imagined my heart connected to the cashier’s with steadiness and warmth. Her face softened when I approached her, and our exchange became gentle, easy, and kind. Nothing was “fixed,” yet the field shifted. Sometimes service is a quiet transmission of care, not a solution.
The When, Which, How Practice:
When: conflict unfolds in real time
Which: compassion for all involved; self-forgiveness for judging; humility to not “fix”
How: two slow breaths; place awareness in the heart; radiate warmth for 10–20 seconds
Small shifts change the day—for her and for you.
